Around the Park

Work is beginning on Building B.  This is the building that houses the Santan, Sonoran, Adobe Rooms, etc.  The floor is being covered to protect the carpet as they're getting ready for painting.  I'm guessing the ceilings will be painted too as there is an electrician taking down all the ceiling fans and light fixtures.

Our maintenance crew of Nick, Luis, and Jaime have been working hard getting the room ready.  If you haven't met these three young men, you should take time to do so.  They certainly do a lot of the behind the scenes work in keeping our park so lovely.

Eddie is outside repairing and installing the electricity that runs the spotlights up the palm trees along the walk way.  Now that our temperatures are back to a seasonal normal (i.e., HOT), the outdoor jobs in the full Arizona sunshine get tough.

Spotted MaryAnn Brown freshening the activities bulletin board for our summer events.

Here is Dora (head of the housekeeping staff) as she goes about assisting with "the chores".

More digging around every palm tree in the front admin area so irrigation lines can be replaced.

It has begun!  The annual trimming of the palm trees.  Look at the view down Oasis as the left side is trimmed and the right side is still waiting.  Soooooo much work to maintain our palms.

It was approaching 90 already in the early morn but the pickleball players were out and active.  Today the group meets here at Palm Creek and they had 44 players.

Here is a group of sewers/crafters that is getting together on Friday mornings.  I guess you could call it a "crafter's bee".  It's always nice to share a hobby with friends.

Memorial Day

It was another memorable Memorial Day with the flags flying high in memory of all the people who have served their country.

Most of America celebrates with the traditional BBQ and friendly gathering so we were no different.  We had 10 tables full of residents at our Monday luncheon!  If you figure about 6-8 people per table, that adds up to 70+.  That's an amazing attendance for this time of year.  More and more folks are staying longer OR even year round.

So what else do we do here??  I for one join a group in the Adobe Room for a friendly challenge of Pegs and Jokers.  My favorite game!

The poker group is dwindling but still enough gather for a game several nights a week.  During this past month of fantastic weather, others are out golfing......or trying to golf.

Our duck families are growing rapidly but still tend to huddle together in a group.  Saw them yesterday up by the rose garden.

The shuffleboard area looks very nice with their new paved walkway between the sets of courts.

The weatherman says the upper 90s and triple digits are on the way and should be here by this weekend.  The cool temps have certainly been wonderful while they lasted.

Rootbeer Floats

You can tell there wasn't much wind as we started our day this morning.  Look at all the jet contrails in the sky.  They left quite a road map and it makes one stop to think about all those people flying off to a new adventure.

Our first stop was to say good morning to Ken Dyer at his new "Holiday Inn" as we call it.  Ken scoped out this extra large corner lot at Site 1216 so he could have a REAL garage.

His new garage door looks like it opens in the middle but it really rolls up like a regular door.  I think Ken had to shop a long time to find something this unique.  Really looks nice!

Here's Kay and Ken with their dog Cricket.  Sorry I chopped your head off, Ken but I wanted to get the cute dog in the picture.  LOL

I think Mica Lane is going to have a whole street full of new park rental houses by the end of summer.

Had to stop and say Howdy to Suzette and Avis as they enjoyed a round of golf.  What a couple of hams!  (I can say that because they're good friends.)

Wow!  Here's a hard job!  This young gent gets to dig out all the dirt around the palm trees by the front of the club house.  Look at the solid tree roots he has to dig through and then pull out all the irrigation piping so it can be replaced.

Then the dirt will be replaced with nice fresh recycled soil so our pretty flowers can grow even nicer next season.

Only one person in the library today.  Usually there are always 4-5 folks.  It's a busy place and well used.

The ladies at the front desk always have a smile for us.

I watched Bob shoot six consecutive shots to win this game.  Way to go, Bob!

In the afternoon, MaryAnn Brown and crew were there to serve us yummy rootbeer floats.  Very nice treat.  Thank you!

We had a nice turn out.  Gaze through these photos and see if you recognize any of your friends that are still here enjoying our fantastic weather.

Digging

Another beautiful morning at 72 degrees and lovely clear sky.  Our golfers are really getting a treat this summer.  Great weather and FREE golf.

Those who went back home don't fare quite so well.  Gene Bond (Site 1621) sent me photos of his view this morning.  No, it's not frozen land of Canada......this is from Colorado.

The only activity to report from morning rounds is that digging continues to put in a new street of homes along the south side of Cole Circle.  Here's the hole for 407 and 406.

Tractor Supply is painting the brick walls already....even before they get a roof.

Tomorrow is Rootbeer Float day so I'll have more to post.  Have a great day!
